Al Jabal Al Akdhar (which means the green mountain) is a good place if you like history. There are some ruins from old villages. Also, there are some sings left of the civil war that was ended in 1959. That war was between interior of Oman leaded by Imam (religious group) and sultan (president) Said bin Taimur and his British allies.
About the trip, planned for this trip a week before it, it was for a small group/single car. Started the journey at 10:15am, arrived the mountain around 12pm. First stop was in Wadi Bani Habib, its an old village with some ruins of old buildings still visible and accessible. Exploring that village can make a good idea about how Omanis used to live. The only downside of that spot is the stairs to go up, it could not be easy for people who didn’t use to do sport.
The second stop was in Yamani restaurant for lunch. We had rice with chicken and meat for 3 people, the total amount of our lunch was 6.2 O.R/ 15$. Going to the third stop, it was a spot to see the view from the mountain (there are pictures below).
In our trip we had 3 main stops, although there are more spots to visit, but we decided to go back after the third stop.
Main Details of the trip:
- Car: Must be 4WD drive, must use low gear in the way down and avoid using breaks as mush as possible
- GPS Coordinates (Entrance of the mountain): 23° 1’39.87″N, 57°42’1.14″E
- Distance from Muscat to the mountain and to Muscat again: around 400KM
- Grand driving time (without the stops): 05:50 hh:mm
- Petrol costs: guess it was 5 O.R/12$ for the car used for that trip
